Family portrait session | Roberts Park, Saltaire | West Yorkshire

I love my work as a professional photographer. Each portrait session I do comes with it’s own challenges, particularly as I work completely on location and without flash. I wouldn’t have it any other way though, because for me to capture images that speak to parents hearts, I need the children to trust me and treat me as someone they’ve known for ages.

I was thrilled to be booked for this portrait session, as I’d had the pleasure of photographing Sarah whilst she was pregnant with her second child, eighteen months ago.

New beginnings | Maternity shoot | West Yorkshire

The portrait session started in Roberts Park, Saltaire on a lovely Sunday morning. We’d been having fun for about twenty minutes when the heavens opened and the sky turned black! We had to huddle in the bandstand until the rain blew over, which thankfully it did after a while. The girls then carried on playing on scooters and exploring before we headed back to their home for a lovely cuppa! Here are some of the favourite images from the morning, I hope you like them. Thanks.

Baby Ailsa | Newborn portraits | West Yorkshire

As a professional Children’s Photographer working in and around West Yorkshire I get to spend time with some adorable children and their parents, capturing their special moments together as a family.

I’ve been itching to post these photographs from a very special portrait session held two weeks ago. I’ve known the couple for a few years now as their eldest is my daughters best friend and I was delighted to get the opportunity to photograph their new arrival. Baby Ailsa was just nine days old when I visited her home and throughout the portrait session she was adorable. Newborn portrait sessions are always very relaxed and to make this one more special, Ailsa’s four year old sister was off school (due to a teaching day), so I was able to capture the magical bond between the two siblings. The lovely couple viewed the images today and even I was close to tears. Here are the favourite images from the morning. I hope you like them!

Beautiful Eve | Baby portraits on location | West Yorkshire

I am every excited to post these images of beautiful baby Eve, who was the most adorable baby to photograph. I had a super morning with Eve and her parents, who made me incredibly welcome – thanks for the many cups of green tea – my absolute favourite!

On all baby portrait sessions, I start by finding the best light in the home to take the photographs. Here I started in the nursery and then moved to the lounge and out into the lovely private garden. Here are a few favourites from the session… enjoy.

Nine cousins | extended family portrait session | Ilkley

It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post – so much has gone on in the Summer holidays. Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing my favourite photographs from portrait sessions held over the last few months.

As a Professional Children’s Portrait photographer, I am booked to photograph children of all ages. I work with natural light and on location in and around West Yorkshire and photograph newborn babies, toddlers, older children and teenagers.

This was a portrait session with a twist – as I had nine cousins, ranging from three to sixteen years of age, to photograph. We spent an energetic two hours in the lovely Middleton Woods, Ilkley – where the bluebells were in full bloom. The session was great fun and all the children were amazing to work with. As you’ll appreciate, I can’t show all the images – however, here are a few favourites from the session. I hope you like them.

There were three boys and six girls in the extended family group and here are the boys having a great moment together with their youngest cousin looking on…

Here are all the girls together – thankfully the bench was just long enough….

In the woods there was this little narrow bridge which the cousins found whilst exploring. Here one of the older cousins helps the youngest along…

I spent time with each cousin and here are a couple of my favourite images…

Such concentration. Taken from a distance so not to disturb…

I like to capture images of children that show their personalities and to do this I spend a good part of the portrait session observing and talking to them. Here the brothers were collecting and sharpening sticks and the youngest are totally engrossed…

It was great fun photographing so many children on one portrait session and I’ve been told that their Grandma was delighted with her birthday present – so I’m really pleased.

If you’d like to discuss a Children’s Portrait session with Cecilia Costello Photography, whether it’s to capture one child, siblings or lots of cousins together, please email me at memories@ceciliacostello.co.uk and I’ll be delighted to discuss your individual requirements. Thank you.

My Aston Martin experience

Well what can I say. The Aston was fabulously fast, beautiful to look at and incredible to drive. I had an amazing time driving the Aston Martin Vantage very fast around the Elvington air field a few weeks ago. I couldn’t have wished for a better gift as I topped 120mph (fast for me!) just out of a bend – thankfully I didn’t crash into any cones along the way. Tetley tea in polystyrene cups and chips made the day even more special! Here are a few snaps I took on the day… I hope you like them.. x

The Aston Martin Vantage

When I arrived I had to sign on before my intensive training session in a trailer.

Training centre...

I had the best car that day by far… who needs a Ferrari…

The Aston Martin Vantage

Finally, I just had to have a cup of tea to top one of the best days I’ve ever had….. what car to drive next I wonder….

Refreshments

I better start my research.

Lucy | Children’s portraits in the Bluebells | St Ives, Bingley

I love taking photographs in the Bluebells. The lovely burst of colour that blossoms on the woodland floor is simply stunning and provides a great background for my children’s portrait sessions.

As a professional children’s portrait photographer, I find that requests for children’s portrait sessions amongst the Bluebells are very popular as there are two fabulous Bluebell woods on my doorstep. One is Middleton Woods, Ilkley and the other is St. Ives Estate, Bingley. This portrait session was taken in the St.Ives Estate, Bingley one Sunday in May.

My client for the day was actually one of my nieces, Lucy.  We had a lovely time walking through the woods and chatting about lots of things. Here are some of my favourite images from the day. I hope you like them!

If you’d like to book a family or children’s portrait session then please get in touch and I’ll happily discuss your individual requirements.

Chris & Amy Wedding | Hipping Hall | 29th April 2011

At last I can share the photos with you all from the “other” wedding on the 29th April 2011. Yes, alongside William and Catherine, my beautiful couple Chris & Amy celebrated their wedding day at the beautiful Hipping Hall in Kirkby Lonsdale. For those who’ve seen the pre-wedding images you’ll know how magical this venue is, so I was utterly thrilled to capture this amazing special day for them both.

From the moment I arrived, I was transported into an calm, serene environment where every single part of the wedding preparation was dealt with supremely. My gorgeous bride was relaxed throughout the whole morning and we had a lovely time watching the Royal Wedding, together with her maid of honour – Helen.

Here are some of my favourite memories from the day. I hope you love them!

Awarded my Licentiateship !

Thank you for all your lovely positive comments congratulating me on getting a Licentiate Qualification with the BIPP – they are very much appreciated!   As a few of you are asking for more details, I thought I’d spend a few minutes explaining what it all means.

I’m a member of The British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) and they have a tiered qualification system: Licentiate, Associate & Fellow. The BIPP have very high standards and the entry rules are strict so I knew I had to work hard. To qualify for Licentiate, I had to submit 20 images together with a working profile that included:

  • A personal statement including my background, current situation and aspirations for the future.
  • An explanation of how and why the photos were taken and the technical detail behind each one.
  • My photography insurance certificate and professional indemnity proof together with CV.

All the images were submitted six weeks beforehand to be reviewed and then I took them to the Head Office in Aylesbury for an interview with five judges – together with a book bound copy of my working profile! They asked me lots of questions and then told me I’d passed –  yippee! It was a great feeling and it definitely was worth all the effort. Next step Associate Level… it may take some time. I hope you enjoy the images, please let me know what you think.  You can also see a copy of the book I made here, or scroll down to see all the images below. Thanks Cx

Pre wedding shoot | Hipping Hall | Chris & Amy

This is Chris & Amy. A fantastic couple who will be getting married on Friday 29th April at the stunning Hipping Hall Hotel in Kirkby Lonsdale. Their special day was booked long before the announcement of the Royal Wedding – it’s great news for Chris & Amy as now all their guests can enjoy an extra long weekend in the Lake District!

As you will know from my blog I specialise in Contemporary Children’s Portraiture, in and around West Yorkshire. I work completely on location and use only natural daylight to capture images that can be transformed into timeless pieces of art. Chris & Amy booked me to photograph their wedding as they liked the natural and spontaneous way I captured the emotions and memories in my portrait sessions.

We met for the pre-wedding shoot on a sunny Saturday morning a few weeks ago. After coffee by the fire in the lovely lounge area, I took the couple outside to explore the gardens. I love the challenge of finding the right light and backgrounds on a portrait session but I had no problems at Hipping Hall – there were so many to choose from.

I’m so excited about this wedding, it’s only a few days to go now and  I really hope that this unusual warm Spring weather continues so that we can all enjoy an absolutely super day in what only can be described as a “true gem” in the Lake District.
