One of the privileges I have being a photographer is getting close to my clients. From the minute they book a portrait photography session with me I work really hard to make connections, even on the first phone call. It’s so important for me to be able to get this trust quickly from each client to put them at ease and then when I arrive to photograph them we already feel like we know each other.
When I first spoke with Kellie we had a long chat about the cousins that would be the portrait photography session. Important to Kellie was that I captured each cousins personalty and the fun they had just being together. Kellie explained that they all get on well, enjoy playing games, football, skipping and making each other laugh. We met at the bandstand at Roberts Park one Sunday morning in June. I was surprised to see when I arrived over 100 vintage buses in the park and lots of visitors so I headed to my favourite spot in the park away from the hustle and bustle. The sun was baking on the day so I was always looking for shade (to try and minimise that overhead unflattering light) and create some fabulous shadows on the image. The children ran around, played football and had such a giggle together. They were all a delight to photograph. This picture below is one of my favourites. The little boy spent a while trying to learn to skip whilst his lovely cousin was practising her gymnastics. I really love their concentration and the shadows on the path.
Please read on to see the rest of their story and a few more favourite images. These two brothers were adorable to photograph, full of cheekiness and fun.
Skipping again… I can hear the giggles from here.
Very proud big brother…
