I spent a fun Autumn morning on this Family Photoshoot at Fountains Abbey. I’ve been photographing the family for eight years since the boys were babies – and we always have a great shoot.
The deer park section of Fountains Abbey Estate is particularly beautiful. It’s definitely one of my top 5 places in North Yorkshire to visit. You enter the estate along an incredible tree-lined driveway, past the roaming deer. It’s here where we started this family’s photography journey. I was amazed at how close we were at one point to the stags. They are such majestic creatures and the brothers loved to watch them. I particularly love the image above of the youngest boy heading towards the stag. The image feels like an old master’s painting to me and I just love the autumn colours.
When I am photographing families, I like to capture natural connections, so I never ask anyone to ‘smile’ or ‘just relax’. I know from experience this has completely the opposite effect. The brothers loved exploring the bridges and streams and a fallen down tree served as a great place for the family to sit together and tell me their jokes and stories.
Many of my clients book a photography session because they like the natural, relaxed feel of my photographs. The Mum’s also say it’s because they want to be on some family photos as they are usually taking the photo, (I know how that feels!).
Here is a selection of photographs from the day that tell this family’s story.
