A portrait of three generations & what to expect on a portrait photography session |Bingley | West Yorkshire

I’m always asked the question by my new clients: “What can I expect on a family portrait photography session with Cecilia Costello Photography?”

My answer to them is this: you can expect to feel relaxed on your photography session because you will be in surroundings that are familiar to you – whether it be your home or a special place that has meaning. I say that it will be engaging and fun because they are doing what they love as a family. Just being together. When my new client says that they are a little uncomfortable in front of a camera, I reassure them by saying that on every one of my shoots, at least one of the family members are self conscious in front of a camera. I say that I will work hard to get to know them first before I even take any pictures and by the time we are into the photography session they will forget the camera is there and just enjoy being together as a family. I say that when I return to their home to share the photographs (with my projector & screen), I will show them beautiful images that tell a story from their day as a family. Family. That’s what I’m about. Capturing the bond between the mother and child, father and child, siblings, couples, cousins, grandparents, great grandparents, pets and even dolls and teddies. My job is to infiltrate your life for a few hours and capture it’s honesty, emotion and connections. That’s what I say to my new clients who book their child & family portrait photography session with me.

This is a beautiful shoot that I did a couple of years back  and I’ve just never shared it here. The reason I am sharing it today is this… this is the shoot that I talk about when new clients book. I always describe this shoot when I have conversations with new clients. It helps them to imagine the kind of things that will happen on their portrait photography session.  Photographed in the grandparents home and garden – it had emotional ties right from the start.  I was booked to capture the whole extended family together on a Sunday. The gift, booked by the daughter, was for her parents 25th Wedding Anniversary.

The brief was simple: to capture the family in smart outfits first and then everyone was to change into more casual clothes before the afternoon BBQ. We had a wonderful time and I remember with great fondness the tasty BBQ chicken,  beef and a scrumptious cake to finish. These images have received lots of recognition during my Christmas fairs, where I promote my business, so I am hoping that sharing them here today will provide a real answer to the question: “What can I expect to happen when I book a family portrait photography session with Cecilia Costello Photography”.

A mixture of connections can be seen from a selection of favourite images from the day. The cousins loved playing in the stream in the bottom of the garden (& I loved wading in it too!).  The colours in the garden were utterly stunning and I love the sunny feel to the images. Those that know me though, know that black & white photography is where my passion lies, so I chose to develop a number of images in black & white and I believe this cements the connections and makes for a timeless image. A stunning coffee table book with hard card pages was purchased following this portrait photography session and all the images were included to give the grandparents a lovely memory of their day.

I hope you like this selection of images from this three generation portrait photography session. If you’d like me to capture your family connections in a relaxed and informal way then please call me on 07947 160185 or drop me an email to memories@ceciliacostello.co.uk and I’ll be delighted to chat or meet over tea & cake! Thanks for looking. Cx
