It’s such a delight to be sharing a few favourite photographs from this wonderful Children’s portrait session I did in Guiseley, Leeds. I first met the little boys when I took my children to a pottery painting shop in Saltaire. The youngest boy was a little baby in a carrier and I struck up a conversation with Kate his Mum. A few years later, Kate contacted me to book a portrait photography session following a Mother’s Day promotion that I was offering at the time. I was super excited and a few months later I visited their family home to spend a couple of hours capturing some special moments.
When I arrive at a clients home I always spend time getting to know the parents and children before I start taking the photographs. This way the children are much more at ease with me mustering in on their morning. With these little brothers, I quickly learnt that the eldest was a huge Star Wars fan and the youngest loved jumping on the trampoline. They were outside boys too. So with this in mind, I started the photo shoot in their lovely garden. We searched for worms (and the youngest proudly collected a few in his little bucket), used large sticks as Lightsabers, played running races, football and bounced on the trampoline. The morning was punctuated with snacks of crackers, cheese and fruit and lots of giggles.
I hope you enjoy the selection of images taken on this Children’s portrait photography session in Guiseley, Leeds.
It’s in the eyes – they say it all.. I love this shot. Pure innocence and wonder.
Simply gorgeous. This little boys expression is beautiful, just inquisitive and direct.
The ‘secret’ garden shed… a wonderful place to explore.
Lying on the trampoline I took this photograph just as the youngest brother flopped down after bouncing for a good few minutes. He was full of giggles and I love this shot of his static trampoline hair and cheeky smile.
It’s really important that when I’m photographing children I stick to their routine so that they don’t get thrown off course – as we all know what a hunger toddler can be like (and adult for that matter!). Cheese biscuits and fruit – perfect.
I took the snack break as an opportunity to spend a while with the eldest boy as he wanted to show me all the Star Wars figures he had. His bedroom had the most amazing red wall, as you can see below and it was the perfect background for capturing some lovely action photographs. Darth Vadar made quite a few appearances too.
